The Westerbork SINGS Survey I . Overview and Image Atlas
نویسندگان
چکیده
We have obtained moderately deep radio continuum imaging at 18 and 22cm with the Westerbork array of 34 nearby galaxies drawn from the Spitzer SINGS and Starburst samples to enable complimentary analysis. The sub-sample have an optical major axis diameter in excess of 5 arcmin and are North of Declination 12. • 5. Sub-sample galaxies span a very wide range of morphological types and star formation rates. Resolved detection was possible for every galaxy. This constitutes a first time detection at GHz radio frequencies for about half of the sample. Analysis of both total intensity and polarization properties of the sample will be published in companion papers. Both the H and OH main-lines of the target galaxies were within the observed band-pass, albeit with only coarse velocity resolution. Only two low mass elliptical galaxies were undetected in H . Four of the sub-sample galaxies were detected in OH main-line absorption, including two new detections. The results are presented in the form of an image atlas for which a standard transfer function and image size are used throughout and whereby the radio continuum, DSS optical and integrated H are displayed side-by-side. Continuum and H line photometry are tabulated for all targets.

The Westerbork SINGS Survey II. Polarization, Faraday Rotation, and Magnetic Fields
A sample of large northern Spitzer Infrared Nearby Galaxies Survey (SINGS) galaxies has recently been observed with the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope (WSRT). We present observations of the linearly polarized radio continuum emission in this WSRT-SINGS galaxy sample. Of the 28 galaxies treated in this paper, 21 are detected in polarized radio continuum at 18and 22-cm wavelengths. We utili...
متن کاملGenerating Synthetic Computed Tomography and Synthetic Magnetic Resonance (sMR: sT1w/sT2w) Images of the Brain Using Atlas-Based Method
Introduction: Nowadays, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in combination with computed-tomography (CT) is increasingly being used in radiation therapy planning. MR and CT images are applied to determine the target volume and calculate dose distribution, respectively. Since the use of these two imaging modalities causes registration uncertainty and increases department w...
متن کاملGenerating the synthetic CT (sCT) and synthetic MR (sMR: sT1w/sT2w) images of the brain using atlas based method
Introduction: Radiation therapy planning (RTP) is one of the clinical applications in which both CT scan and MRI are used. MR and CT images are applied to determine the target volume and calculation of dose distribution, respectively. In addition, using two imaging modalities increases the department workload and cost. In this study, an algorithm was presented to create synthet...
متن کاملAtlas-based image segmentation: A Survey
Image segmentation is often the first step in image analysis. Its goal is to simplify or change the representation of an image into something more meaningful or easier to analyze. Comparative advantage of the atlas-based segmentation with respect to the other segmentation methods is the ability to segment the image with no well defined relation between regions and pixels’ intensities. This is u...
متن کاملA Deep WSRT 1.4 GHz Radio Survey of the Spitzer Space Telescope FLSv Region
The First Look Survey (FLS) is the first scientific product to emerge from the Spitzer Space Telescope. A small region of this field (the verification strip) has been imaged very deeply, permitting the detection of cosmologically distant sources. We present Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope (WSRT) observations of this region, encompassing a ∼ 1 sq. deg field, centred on the verification stri...
